Biography #2 (for Second Jungle Book)

London-born Roddy McDowall boasts an extensive film and television career. After appearing in the British film MURDER IN THE FAMILY at age eight, McDowall was discovered by Daryl Zanuck at age 12 and taken to Hollywood where he starred in such films as MAN HUNG, the classic HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY, LASSIE COME HOME, in which he starred with Elizabeth Taylor, and others.

In his twenties, McDowall moved to New York and a career on the stage. It was here that he notched up an outstanding personal triumph in George Bernard Shaw's MISALLIANCE. During his New York years, McDowall won a Tony and an Emmy for his outstanding work.

In addition to his successful roles in the PLANET OF THE APES movies, his other credits include CLEOPATRA, THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and FUNNY GIRL. He is also an accomplished photographer whose pictures of Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracey and Mia Farrow and other celebrities have been published in such magazines as Look and Life. McDowall's movie and TV career has spanned over 40 years, and is one of the few who have successfully made the transition from child star to adult international fame.
