Kate Capshaw

Kate Capshaw will next star opposite David Arquette and Stanley Tucci in the independent feature Life During Wartime, a comic drama based on the play by Keith Reddin, which will make its world debut at the Toronto Film Festival this year. Capshaw most recently starred in Griffin Dunne's Academy Award-nominated short film Duke of Groove with Uma Thurman and Kiefer Sutherland for Showtime.

In 1995, Capshaw co-starred with Alfre Woodard, Winona Ryder, Ellen Burstyn and Anne Bancroft in the critically-acclaimed How to Make an American Quilt. Prior to that, she starred opposite Sean Connery and Laurence Fishburne in Just Cause and with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening in Love Affair. Capshaw recently co-starred with Rita Wilson in No Dogs Allowed, a 12 minute short film, the first in a series produced jointly by the DGA and the WGA. The actress will soon produce and star in The Love Letter, a screen adaptation of the best-selling novel by Cathleen Schine for DreamWorks SKG.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised in Missouri, Capshaw graduated from the University of Missouri where she received a Bachelors Degree in History Education and a Masters Degree in Special Education. She taught elementary and high school for two years before heading to New York to pursue an acting career. She began to study voice and acting while appearing in a number of commercials, as well as the daytime soap operas The Edge of Night and Love of Life.

Capshaw made her film debut in the romantic comedy A Little Sex. She went on to make other films, including Windy City, Dreamscape, a sci-fi fantasy starring Dennis Quaid, Best Defense, starring Dudley Moore, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, starring Harrison Ford, Black Rain starring Michael Douglas, Power with Richard Gere and directed by Sidney Lumet, Space Camp and Love at Large starring Tom Berenger.

Capshaw's television credits include the movies Missing Children and Her Secret Life. She also starred in The Quick and the Dead for HBO with Sam Elliott, Showtime's suspenseful drama Next Door, with James Woods and Randy Quaid, and the four-hour mini-series Internal Affairs, with Richard Crenna.

Capshaw lives in Los Angeles with her husband, director Steven Spielberg, and their six children.
