Garry Shandling
Shandling's feature film credits include key roles in the forthcoming Town and Country with Warren Beatty, Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Andie MacDowell; Hurlyburly, with Sean Penn and Kevin Spacey; Love Affair, opposite Warren Beatty and Annette Bening and Nora Ephron's Mixed Nuts.
Shandling garnered numerous Emmy Award nominations and CableAce Awards as well as the highest critical plaudits for his long-running HBO series 'The Larry Sanders Show.' A cutting-edge comedy based on the life of a fictitious late-night talk show host, the program explored the hilarious and heartbreaking behind-the-scenes dynamics of the production staff and featured appearances by real-life celebrities as guests on Sanders' show.
Prior to The Larry Sanders Show, Shandling enjoyed a highly successful four-year run with the Fox network series, 'It's Garry Shandling's Show,' which offered a weekly glimpse of his life at home. Two highly successful Showtime specials, 'Garry Shandling Alone in Vegas' and 'The Garry Shandling Show 25th Anniversary Special,' preceded the series. His regular appearances as guest host on 'The Tonight Show' in the early and mid-'80s also played an important role in his rise in the entertainment world.
Shandling began his career as a writer for such renowned situation comedies as 'Sanford and Son' and 'Welcome Back, Kotter.' Seeking to expand his comedic voice beyond television writing, he soon began to create and perform his own material. In 1975, he made his successful stand-up debut at The Comedy Store and soon left his lucrative writing career to concentrate on live appearances.
