Timothy Bottoms
A native of Santa Barbara, California, Bottoms knew from the time he was four years old that he wanted to be an actor. When he graduated from high school, he was cast in the leading role of legendary director Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun. The role earned Bottoms a Golden Globe nomination as Most Promising Newcomer. He was subsequently cast as Sonny, the sensitive central character in Peter Bogdanovich's classic The Last Picture Show. The film was a huge critical and commercial success, made stars of Bottoms, Jeff Bridges, and Cybill Shepherd, and won Oscars for co-stars Ben Johnson and Cloris Leachman. Bottoms then starred in James Bridges' The Paper Chase, again a great hit, which won an Oscar for Bottoms' co-star John Houseman.
Other film credits include Rollercoaster, directed by James Goldstone; Texasville, Bogdanovich's sequel to The Last Picture Show; Blue Sky, starring Jessica Lange and Tommy Lee Jones; and Hurricane, starring opposite Mia Farrow. In his long career he has worked with acclaimed directors such as Phillip Kaufman, Arthur Hiller, and the late Alan J. Pakula. In television, Bottoms received an ACE Award for his work on the HBO series The Hitchhiker. He has been in several telefilms, including East of Eden for ABC and The Moneychangers for NBC, and has appeared in countless guest star roles for such shows as Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, and Ray Bradbury Theatre.
A happily married father of four, Bottoms divides his time between his acting work and his other great love: training wild horses at his two ranches near Big Sur, California.
