Blumas was born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada. Before high school, Blumas attended the Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts, where he studied music, dance, drama, and art.

Blumas's first lead film role was in The Wall, in which he played Ben Holst opposite Edward James Olmos. He then went out to play Young Richard in Dinner at Fred's, opposite Gil Bellows and Parker Posey, and Kyle Hunter in The Unsaid, opposite Andy Garcia and Teri Polo.

On television, Blumas has appeared in numerous series including Earth: Final Conflict, Due South, Little Men (as the series co-lead) and Twice in a Lifetime, as well as in the CBS mini-series Love on the Land. He has also starred as Aaron in Showtime's Stranger in Town opposite Harry Hamlin and Graham Greene; as Daniel Fontaine in the HBO period piece Claude Monet: Shadow & Light; as Greg Jeffries in Switching Goals, with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen; and as Jimmy Osmond in Inside the Osmonds.

Blumas has also appeared in numerous theatrical productions including Annie Warbuck and My Fair Lady.

Apart from acting, Blumas enjoys athletics. He plays football for his high school, plays tennis, loves snowboarding, and races MacKenzie gold level in skiing. He also plays guitar, writes music, and performs in a band with his friends.
