Jimmy Buffett (born December 25, 1946) is an American singer and songwriter, best known for a few hits such as Margaritaville, though he has a rabid cult following known as Parrot Heads.

Buffett began his musical career in the late 1960s as a country artist, and recorded his first album, Down to Earth in 1970. He then moved to Key West and began establishing his easy-going beach bum persona that he has become known for. He played during his college years at the University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Buffett's second album was White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean, now acclaimed as his best though it achieved only moderate sales.

Margaritaville was released in 1974 and made him into a pop star for a brief period, continued by 1976's Havana Daydreamin' and 1977's Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.

During the 1980s, Buffett made far more money off his tours than albums, and he became known as a popular concert draw. He released a series of albums during the following twenty years, primarily to his devoted audience, as well as branching into writing and merchandising of various kinds.

In 2003 he parterned with Alan Jackson for the number one country hit It's Five O'clock Somewhere, his first number one spot on the country charts.

In 2004, he has a new album called License to Chill, scheduled to be released on July 13, 2004.
