Biography #2 (for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days)

Bebe Neuwirth was raised in Princeton, New Jersey, and has established herself as a versatile actress on stage, film and television. She is perhaps best known for her role as the deadpan psychiatrist in the television series, Cheers, for which she won two Emmy Awards. Most recently, she starred as Velma in the Broadway production of Chicago, for which she won a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award and an Astaire Award. She also received a Tony Award for her role as Nickie in Sweet Charity. Her other Broadway credits include Fosse, Damn Yankees, A Chorus Line, Little Me and Dancin.' In addition, she has performed leading roles in numerous regional theater productions, including the title role in Kiss of the Spider Woman in London's West End, Anita in West Side Story at the Cleveland Opera and Katherine in The Taming of the Shrew at Williamstown Theatre Festival.

On the big screen, Neuwirth's growing filmography includes Tadpole, Liberty Heights, Summer of Sam, Celebrity, Pinocchio, Jumanji, Malice, Say Anything, Green Card, The Faculty, The Associate, The Paint Job and Bugsy. In addition, she has just completed Le Divorce with Kate Hudson for Merchant-Ivory Films and the Big Bounce with Owen Wilson and Morgan Freeman.

Neuwirth began studying ballet at the age of five and danced with the Princeton Ballet Company in such classics as Peter and the Wolf, The Nutcracker and Coppelia. After graduation, she attended the Dance Division of the Juilliard School in New York City and is proud to be an Honorary Zeigfeld Girl.
