Bob Newhart

Bob Newhart has enjoyed two successful television series, sold millions of comedy albums worldwide, appeared in more than 14 feature films and continues to perform for sell-out crowds in his live stand-up concerts.

Newhart began his career in entertainment following a brief stint as an accountant in Chicago. Through a friendship with Chicago disc jockey Dan Sorkin, he met with the head of Warner Bros. Records, who, upon hearing his stand-up material, offered him a recording contract. Seven albums and three Grammys later, he had made his mark.

Newhart went on to begin his television career with The Bob Newhart Show, which aired for six years and earned him an Emmy and a Peabody Award. This was followed by tremendous success the series Newhart, which aired for eight years.

Newhart made guest appearances on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in, The Dean Martin Variety Show, Murphy Brown, The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live. His performance on a three-episode stint on the critically acclaimed series ER earned him a 2005 Emmy nomination. He garnered high praise for his hilarious guest stint on Desperate Housewives.

In film, Newhart has worked in film with some of the biggest names in Hollywood: Hell is for Heroes, with Steve McQueen; On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, with Barbra Streisand; Catch-22, with Jon Voight; Little Miss Marker, with Walter Matthau; Hot Millions, with Peter Ustinov; Cold Turkey, with Dick Van Dyke and director Norman Lear; Thursday's Game, with Gene Wilder; and First Family, with Gilda Radner. His most recent feature films include Legally Blonde II: Red, White and Blonde, with Reese Witherspoon, and Elf, opposite Will Ferrell.

In early 2005, Newhart was awarded the prestigious American Masters Award, Career Achievement Award from the Television Critics Association and the TV Land Icon Award. His first book, I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This, was published by Hyperion Books in fall 2006.
