Back in Britain, Parker and his actress wife, Anna Patrick, have two children, and his career has been flourishing. Parker recently starred in many U.S. based productions, playing the title role in David, as well as Rob Hall in the adaptation of the novel Into Thin Air and the independent film Lover's Prayer. He is now concentrating on his role as Thomas Lynley in the Inspector Lynley Mysteries, four one-hour films for PBS adapted from the bestselling books by Californian author Elizabeth George.
His feature film credits include War Requiem (Lord Olivier's last film), Mel Gibson's Hamlet, Kevin Costner's The Bodyguard, and Othello, opposite Laurence Fishburne. Othello, adapted and directed by Nathaniel's brother, Oliver, also co-starred Ken Branagh and Anna Patrick.
He fell in love with acting when he was nine years old watching his sister in a play at Cambridge University. As with many British actors his first passion was the theater. Toward the end of his school drama career, he went onto the National Youth Theater, playing lead roles for about five years, well after he stopped being considered a youth. From there it was the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art before springboarding into two years at the Royal Shakespeare Company, landing seven major roles. It was then that he moved onto the screen, which has since dominated his career. Indeed he has only performed in three plays in the last twelve years, including Dustin Hoffman's The Merchant of Venice opposite Dustin Hoffman in London and on Broadway, playing the main part of Bassanio.
