Biography #2

Charles Leavitt was born in Pittsburgh, but raised overseas as the son of a foreign service diplomat. His first venture into the arts was as a jazz and classical guitarist in the San Francisco Bay Area.

He moved to Los Angeles in 1988 after writing a speculative television pilot. Putting his English major from the University of Chicago to work on a day job, Leavitt began editing medical manuals at the UCLA Cancer Center - an experience that inspired him to write his first screenplay.

In addition to K-PAX, he has written the screenplay for The Mighty (adapted from the novel Freak the Mighty), starring Sharon Stone and James Gandolfini for director Peter Chelsom. Leavitt currently has several projects in the works including Bombshell, a WWII spy thriller for Universal Pictures.
