Ellory Elkayem

At the 1998 Telluride Film Festival, New Zealand-born Ellory Elkayem showcased his writing, producing and directing skills with his short film Larger Than Life, about a spider that grows to gigantic size and terrorizes a woman in her home. When executive producer Roland Emmerich saw the short, he and Dean Devlin approached the young director and teamed him with scribe Jesse Alexander to write and develop the script that became Eight Legged Freaks.

Additionally, Elkayem's Larger Than Life also won Best Short at the Sweden Fantastic Film Festival, and his 2001 science-fiction telefilm They Nest won the Audience Award at the Gérardmer Film Festival.
