Steve Harvey
A native of Cleveland, Harvey has been performing stand-up in comedy clubs across the nation for more than a decade, drawing on his own childhood experiences and dead-on observations about life and human nature for much of his material. His stand-up comedy has been featured in two HBO specials: HBO Comedy Half-Hour and Steve Harvey: One Man, the latter which won a 1999 Vision Award in recognition of distinctive cable programming that reflects cultural diversity. Last year, he released his successful debut comedy album, Steve Harvey...Down South Somewhere.
One of the secrets behind Harvey's success is his ability to adapt his unique comedic personality to any arena. His first television venture, the comedy series Me and the Boys, earned Harvey a nomination for a 1995 People's Choice Award for Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series. Now, as the star of The Steve Harvey Show, he has won the honor of Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series from the NAACP Image Awards. Harvey has been praised by critics for his positive portrayal of African Americans on The Steve Harvey Show, which is rated #1 in African-American households across the nation.
Harvey is committed to helping youths in detention centers and middle schools nationwide by speaking about the pitfalls of drugs and the importance of setting goals. He is creating an organization called the King Love Center, named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which he envisions as a place young people can visit year-round to learn the importance of a positive mental attitude, character building and making dreams become reality.
The youngest of five children, Harvey makes his home in Dallas, Texas with his wife and son.
