Biography #2 (for Dreamgirls)

Sharon Leal is making her major feature film debut in Dreamgirls. Perhaps best known to television audiences for her work on David E. Kelley's award-winning drama series Boston Public, she has also starred in Broadway musicals and is currently at work on her first album.

Leal was born in Tucson, Arizona, and raised in the central California city of Fresno. She started singing at an early age and discovered her passion for acting while attending Roosevelt High School for the Performing Arts. Leal's professional career began in regional theater productions of such musicals as Ain't Misbehavin€², Into the Woods, and Little Shop of Horrors.

Moving to New York, Leal got her first break when she was cast in the daytime drama series Guiding Light. As her television career began to flourish, she held onto her passion for the theater, landing major roles in the Broadway hits Miss Saigon and Rent. Following critical acclaim for her work on Broadway, she won a leading role in the original musical Bright Lights, Big City at the New York Theatre Workshop, and was also featured on the show's soundtrack.

On the screen, Leal won a Best Supporting Actress Award at The New York Independent Film Festival for her work in the short film What Are the Odds. Relocating to Los Angeles, Leal quickly landed the role of Marilyn Sudor on the Fox Network's series, Boston Public. In addition to starring on Boston Public for four seasons, Leal had a guest role on the series Las Vegas and a recurring role on the series LAX.

During Leal's fourth season on Boston Public, David E. Kelley wrote an episode in which her character performs a Christmas song, specifically to showcase Leal's singing talent. The day after the episode aired, Leal received a call from Universal Music, offering her a record contract. Although, at the time, she chose to postpone making an album to focus on having a family, Leal is now working on her debut CD. Sharon is currently filming Motives 2 and she will also be seen this season on CSI: Miami.

Sharon Leal is Marylin Sudor the dishy music teacher at Winslow High in the tv series Boston Public

Sharon Leal was born on October 17, in Tuscon and grew up in Fresno, Calif. At the age of 2 Leal, began singing into a microphone while her parents, Angelita and Jesse, would tape her performances. This natural inclination to the performing arts soon led to Leal's interest in acting, and at the age of 13 she began to perform in community theater productions.

Leal's love for the theater has followed her through most of her career, some of her most famous roles include: Mimi in the First National Touring Company of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production Rent and as Gigi in Broadway's production of Miss Saigon. She has also starred in several regional productions. Some of her television roles include: Marita on the television series Legacy and Dahlia Crede on the long-running daytime drama Guiding Light.
