Edward Shearmur

From the taut emotional landscapes of The Wings of the Dove and K-Pax to the freewheeling contemporary scores he fashioned for Charlie's Angels and Cruel Intentions, Edward Shearmur's consistently innovative and intelligent approach to film music has won him critical acclaim, and has led to his working on a diverse range of projects such as the sweeping historical dramas The Count of Monte Cristo, romantic comedies such as Miss Congeniality and the large scale action scores Reign of Fire and Johnny English.

Having supplemented a formal classical music training (including a music scholarship to Cambridge University and an apprenticeship with composer Michael Kamen) with a constant exploration of experimental and contemporary music, Mr. Shearmur is equally at home with large symphony orchestras and the latest electronic technology.

His interest in non-western musical techniques has given much of his work a distinct edge and led to his working as musical director for Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (on their 1994 Unplugged show and subsequent tour) for whom he assembled an ensemble of musicians from North Africa, and helped rework their Led Zeppelin catalogue with a Middle Eastern flavor. Amongst others, Mr. Shearmur has also worked with Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd and Annie Lennox.

Born in London, Mr. Shearmur has made Los Angeles his home since 1998.
