Victor Fleming
Victor Fleming [1883-1949] received an Oscar for Best Director, but not for The Wizard of Oz; the director won for Gone With the Wind, a project for which he left Oz three weeks prior to the film's finish (with an uncredited King Vidor completing Oz). The distinguished filmmaker directed some of the 1940's most memorable films -- Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Tortilla Flat and Joan of Arc.
