Margarethe von Trotta
Margarethe von Trottas a German film director and a member of New German Cinema.
In her early career, she was an actor, notably in films from both Fassbinder and Volker Schlöndorff. In 1971, she divorced her first husband to marry Schlöndorff. A few years later, her first feature followed and after that she came to be the foremost female director working in Germany at the time. Although she and Schlöndorff later split in 1991, she remains an important part of German cinema.
