Chris Pine has emerged as one of Hollywood's hottest young actors. In 2009, he was seen in Paramount's box-office smash-hit feature film Star Trek for director J. J. Abrams. The film chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.

Now in production is This Means War, in which Pine stars opposite Reese Witherspoon and Tom Hardy. In the film, a long-term friendship between two top covert agents becomes all-out war when they fall for the same woman. The two highly-trained frenemies employ devious espionage tactics to sabotage each other's attempts to woo her –while trying to stop a formidable enemy of the state. McG is directing, for release in 2011.

Pine starred in the Paramount Vantage film Carriers, for director Álex Pastor. The film focuses on four friends fleeing a viral pandemic and the chaos that ensues. Additionally, he lent his voice to the educational animated feature, Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey, in which he voices the character of Dave, a young photon who is forced out of the sun on a journey of discovery.

Prior to that, Pine co-starred in Bottle Shock for writer/director Randall Miller. Set in the 1970s, the film is based on the true story of the Chateau Montelena winery, which won an international wine tasting competition and put Napa Valley at the forefront of the wine world. Pine portrayed the son of a vineyard owner who saves the wine and represents Napa in the French tasting. The film also featured Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman and Rachael Taylor. Additionally, Pine stared in Small Town Saturday Night. The film is about a young man looking to escape the trappings of his provincial life by pursuing his music career as a singer/songwriter. The project, by writer/director Ryan Craig, was initially set up at the Sundance Producers Lab in 2006.

Pine's additional credits include co-starring in Joe Carnahan's gritty ensemble drama Smokin' Aces, in which Pine played the role of Darwin Tremor, the leader of a band of three brothers who are killers for hire. Chris also starred as the title role in Blind Dating with Eddie Kaye Thomas and Jane Seymour. The comedy focuses on overcoming cultural and physiological boundaries in the name of love. Pine also starred in the romantic comedy Just My Luck opposite Lindsay Lohan for director Donald Petrie. The film tells the story of a very lucky socialite, who swaps her fortune after a chance encounter with a down-and-out young man.

On the stage, Pine recently starred in Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore, at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. The trade publication Variety called Pine's performance spookily, spectacularly good and went on to remark that "Inishmore audiences are present at the launch of what promises to be a truly remarkable stage career."

Pine also received rave reviews and a 2009 Ovation Award nomination for his performance in the drama Farragut North starring opposite Chris Noth at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. His additional stage credits include the Neil LaBute play, Fat Pig, also at the Geffen Playhouse, and The Atheist, a one man show performed off off Broadway.

Pine graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in English and he has studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater and University of Leeds in the U.K. His extensive theater work includes performances in productions of Our Town, American Buffalo, No Exit, Waiting for Godot, and Orestes.

Pine's parents are actors Gwynne Gilford and Robert Pine. His late grandmother, Anne Gwynne, was a film actress of the ‘30s and ‘40s.
