Antonio Tarver
Antonio Tarver is known as Magic Man to fight fans and is credited with taking the sport to an exciting new level. Though he put on weight to play the heavyweight champion in Rocky Balboa, in reality he recently retired as the premier light heavyweight.
Tarver began boxing at an Orlando, Florida Boys Club when he was ten. When the family moved to a different neighborhood he concentrated on football during high school. But in 1988, his interest in boxing was reborn as he saw an old ring rival, Roy Jones Jr., fight for the United States at the Seoul Olympic Games. Re-entering the ring, he subsequently won an Olympic Bronze Medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
In 2003, Tarver became world light heavyweight champion after winning a unanimous decision. He retired from the ring in 2006. His record stands at 24 wins, four losses, with 18 wins coming by way of knockouts.
He makes his home in Tampa, Florida,
