Howard Deutch has brought his deft touch to several successful films since making an auspicious feature debut with Pretty in Pink. Produced by John Hughes and confirming Molly Ringwald as the primary young actress of her time, the film was an instant hit and is considered to be definitive of the era's youth genre movies.

He has since directed the popular Some Kind of Wonderful, starring Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson and Lea Thompson; The Great Outdoors, teaming Dan Aykroyd and John Candy; Article 99, starring Kiefer Sutherland and Ray Liotta; Getting Even With Dad, starring Ted Danson and Macauley Culkin; Grumpier Old Men, starring Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Sophia Loren and Ann-Margret; and Neil Simon's The Odd Couple II, again teaming Lemmon and Matthau.

Deutch was honored with a CableACE Award for the Dead Right episode of the HBO series Tales From the Crypt. His credits also include another episode of Tales From the Crypt and the pilot episode of the hit television series, Melrose Place.

Born and raised in New York City, Deutch attended Ohio State University and began his career in the entertainment industry working on movie trailers and music videos. He has directed music videos for an assortment of top recording artists, including Billy Idol and Billy Joel.

Deutch's credits also extend to the stage, and he has directed several plays at New York's Ensemble Studio Theatre. In addition, he is one of the most respected commercial directors in the industry, having helmed numerous spots for a wide range of products.
