Hampton Fancher
Hampton Fancher grew up in Los Angeles and spent most of his youth watching films. In his early years, he dropped out of school, moved to Spain, and taking on the name of Mario Montejo, became a successful flamenco dancer. Later he moved back to the States and began to concentrate again on the film business.
Fancher began his career as an actor, appearing on such shows as Gunsmoke, The Fugitive, and Maverick in the 1960s and 70s. He soon realized that he wanted to work behind the scenes, and broke into screenwriting. He highlighted his writing career with the sci-fi cult classic Blade Runner and was also executive producer. He wrote The Mighty Quinn, directed by Carl Schenkel and starring Denzel Washington. Francher has written numerous screenplays throughout his career and continues his plans for future projects with his partner, producer Fida Attieh, through their newly formed production company, Both Pictures, Inc.
