Ed Viesturs

World renowned mountain climber Ed Viesturs appears in Vertical Limit as himself. America's most accomplished high-altitude climber, Viesturs is the only American to have climbed 12 of the 14 highest (8000 meters) peaks in the world without oxygen. He hopes to climb the remaining two during the next two years.

He has climbed Everest five times and works occasionally as an expedition guide for Adventure Consultants, the company established by New Zealander Rob Hall - who perished on Everest in 1996 - and is now run by Guy Cotter, who was senior climber on the Vertical Limit crew.

Viesturs starred in the Imax Everest film, in which he summited Everest climbing without oxygen. Viesturs' current assignments involve working with his various sponsors, including Rolex, Jansport and Oakley. He also gives corporate motivational speeches.

Viesturs won the American Alpine Club Sowles Award in 1992 in recognition of his involvement in two rescues on K2.
