Tobey Maguire

Tobey Maguire continues to garner both critical and commercial success in a career renowned for the actor's ability to deliver standout performances in both big budget blockbusters as well as thought-provoking independents.

Maguire recently wrapped production on Jacob Aaron Estes' film THE DETAILS opposite Laura Linney. The film is a black comedy about a couple whose disagreements over how to deal with their raccoon infestation leads to an escalating series of events.

In 2007, Maguire reunited with director Sam Raimi for SPIDER-MAN 3, which holds the record for the second biggest opening weekend (domestic and worldwide) of all time as well as becoming the #1 highest grossing film of 2007. In addition, the franchise is one of the successful in film history as SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN 2 and SPIDER-MAN 3 account for three of the fifteen highest grossing films of all time. Maguire's career has been defined by notable performances, collaborating with some of the most celebrated minds in cinema. His credits include his memorable portrayal of horse jockey ‘Red Pollard' in Gary Ross's SEABISCUIT, which helped lead the race horse epic to seven Academy Award nominations including Best Picture; Steven Soderbergh's period drama THE GOOD GERMAN, opposite George Clooney and Cate Blanchett; Woody Allen's literary satire DECONSTRUCTING HARRY; Terry Gilliam's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson; and his first collaboration with Gary Ross, PLEASANTVILLE, which co-starred Reese Witherspoon. Maguire cemented his career as a compelling actor with turns as ‘Homer Wells' in Lasse Hallstrom's poignant coming-of-age drama, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES, (a film nominated for seven Academy Awards); ‘Jake Roedel' in Ang Lee's RIDE WITH THE DEVIL, the story of a young American Bushwhacker striving to define himself in a country redefining its image amidst social turmoil; and ‘James Leer' in Curtis Hanson's WONDER BOYS in which Maguire starred opposite Michael Douglas as a student with a tendency to fictionalize his own family history. Maguire's gentle portrayal of a misunderstood youth in Ang Lee's 1997 Academy-Award nominated film, THE ICE STORM, established Maguire with both audiences and critics alike. This performance came on the heels of Maguire's breakthrough in Griffin Dunne's 1995 Academy Award nominated short DUKE OF GROOVE.

As a producer, Maguire is currently developing an array of thought-provoking projects through Maguire Entertainment, including: ROBOTECH, a sprawling sci-fi epic written by Lawrence Kasdan and based on the popular television series; TOKYO SUCKERPUNCH, directed by Gary Ross and adapted by Ed Solomon from Adam Isaacson's novel, which Maguire is producing alongside Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher; CRUSADERS, which follows the back story of landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court case, also directed by Ross and written by Danny Strong; EVERYTHING CHANGES, the big-screen adaptation of Jonathan Tropper's bestselling novel, written and directed by Peter Hedges (About a Boy) and produced by Maguire and Wendy Finerman; MONEY FOR NOTHING, the story of a man's journey through the underbelly of the nascent state lottery system, written by Peter Steinfeld. Maguire Entertainment is also developing an HBO series with writer Chris D'Arienzo about the dark side of stand-up comedy. Maguire's first outing as a producer was the big-screen adaptation of David Benioff's novel The 25th Hour for the Walt Disney Company. The critically-acclaimed film was directed by Spike Lee and stars Ed Norton.
