Biography #2 (for Darkness)

Academy Award-winning actress Anna Paquin most recently appeared on stage in Neil Labute's The Distance From Here which received the Drama Desk Award for Best Cast Ensemble. Prior to that, she starred off-Broadway in the limited run of Paul Weitz's Ensemble Studio Theater's Roulette. She received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Lead Actress for her stage debut in director Phillip Seymour Hoffman's The Glory of Living and went on to appear in Kenneth Lonergan's West End production of This is Our Youth opposite Jake Gyllenhaal and Hayden Christensen.

Paquin's extensive body of film work includes the Bryan Singer blockbusters X-Men and X-Men 2, Spike Lee's acclaimed The 25th Hour, Buffalo Soldiers, Gus Van Sant's Finding Forrester, Cameron Crowe's Academy Award-winning Almost Famous, Hurlyburly, Robert Iscove's She's All That, Tony Goldwyn's A Walk on the Moon, Steven Spielberg's Amistad, Carroll Ballard's Fly Away Home and Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre.

She stunned the world in 1993 with her film debut as the daughter of the bride in an arranged marriage in Jane Campion's The Piano. Her performance opposite Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter led to her winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at the age of 11.

Paquin was born in Canada and raised in New Zealand. She will next be seen in Noah Baumbach's The Squid and the Whale, which was recently selected for competition in the 2005 Sundance Film Festival.

Anna Paquin most recently starred in 20th Century Fox's X-Men, based on the best-selling Marvel Comics franchise and directed by Bryan Singer; and Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous, about a '70s rock band, co-starring Billy Crudup and Kate Hudson.

Paquin stunned the world in 1993 with her film debut as the daughter of a woman (Holly Hunter) who enters into an arranged marriage in Jane Campion's The Piano. Hunter won the Best Actress Oscar for the film and Paquin won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.

Paquin was also recently seen in Miramax's A Walk on the Moon, All the Rage and She's All That. Other credits include Steven Spielberg's Amistad, Fly Away Home and Jane Eyre. On television, Paquin starred opposite Alfre Woodard in Frankie Adams, an adaptation of Carson McCullers' The Member of the Wedding.
