Lumi Cavazos

A native of Monterey in Northern Mexico, Lumi Cavazos gained international attention with her mesmerizing performance as Tita in the award-winning film Like Water for Chocolate. For this portrayal, she won the Best Actress prize at the Tokyo Film Festival and the Fetival de Gramado in Brazil. True to Hollywood romance, Lumi is still with her co-star from the film Marco Leonardi.

Cavazos began her acting career at fifteen, working with an avant-garde theater company in Guadalajara for three years. The youngest of nine children, she is the first in her family to pursue the arts.

Since moving to Los Angeles, she has appeared in the indie hit Bottlerocket while continuing to star in several films in her native country. Lumi recently completed starring opposite Rosanna Arquette in Allison Anders' and Kurt Voss' Sugartown, and will reunite with director Alfonso Arau in the highly anticipated film Zapata, which is scheduled to begin shooting in the spring.
