Mae Whitman made her feature film debut in the 1994 movie Can't Hardly Wait. After Bye Bye, Love, she went on to appear in the films One Fine Day, 1996, Independence Day, 1996, Hope Floats, 1998 and The Gingerbread Man, 1998.

She has also made numerous appearances on television, including feature Naomi and Wynonna: Love Can Build a Bridge, 1995, miniseries Degrees of Guilt, 1995, After Jimmy, 1996, JAG (Jaggle Bells), 1998, Chicago Hope (Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Karmic Relief), 1998, Chicken Soup for the Soul, 1998, World's Greatest Magic V, 1998, A Season for Miracles, 1999 and The Invisible Child, 1999.and Judging Amy (Last Tango in Hartford), starring Bye Bye, Love alumni, actress Amy Brenneman, 2000.
